No surprise! Above normal temperatures and rain over the last two weeks has left no measurable snow in the area reports the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) who measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.
“Since our records began in 1988, the only other years with no snow were in 1998 and 2007”, said Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist. “In 2023, the average snow depth for the three sites was 10.8 cm and water equivalence was 33.7 mm at this time of year” she added.
Snow is measured for depth and water equivalence at three locations in the watershed.
