(North Bay, Ontario, April 9, 2021)  All three snow course survey sites are snow free, making 2021 among the earliest snow-free seasons since the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority began measuring snow depth and water content in 1987 as part of its flood forecasting and warning program.

“This is the earliest snow-free season of the last nine years,” said Kurtis Romanchuk, NBMCA’s Water Resources Engineer.  “It is relatively uncommon to be snow-free at this time of year, however in 2012, we were snow-free by the end of March,” he added.

Snow is measured for depth and water equivalence at three locations in the watershed.
