(North Bay, Ontario, February 28, 2020) With the snowfall received over the last 24 hours, snow depth is now slightly above normal for this time of the year, whereas water content is still below normal for this time of the year, reports the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) who measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.
“The average snow depth for all sites is 56.9 cm (109% normal) and average water equivalence is 92.3 mm (78% normal),” said Kurtis Romanchuk NBMCA’s Water Resources Engineer. The average snow depth was 84.8 cm and water equivalence was 200.3 mm for all sites in 2019.
Snow is measured for depth and water equivalence at three locations in the watershed. Data for the season can be found on the NBMCA website at www.nbmca.ca.
