A Water Safety Statement has been issued for the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority watershed jurisdiction, according to the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA).
Rain on frozen conditions between Christmas Day and December 27 may result in rapid changes in water levels on urban creeks in the City of North Bay. Water levels elsewhere in the watershed will also increase; however, flooding is not expected at this time.
All residents and visitors are urged to stay off the ice. Ice conditions can deteriorate with warmer temperatures, rainfall and increased flows. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery at this time and, when combined with cold open water, pose a serious hazard.
MoreThe snowpack was dense and wet with warm temperatures that are well above normal for this time of year. These temperatures combined with light rain over the weekend will reduce the snowpack on the landscape reports the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) who measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.
