A FLOOD WARNING remains in effect for the Lake Nipissing Shoreline, La Vase River downstream of Lakeshore Dr, and Parks Creek. The previously issued Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Outlook has ended.

"The water level of Lake Nipissing is declining but still remains high and shoreline areas are vulnerable to winds and wave action. Water levels may fluctuate in response to southwest and west winds, which can temporarily enhance local water level by 10-15 cm," said Angela Mills, NBMCA Flood Duty Officer. "The water level of the Ottawa River at Mattawa has returned to seasonally normal conditions and are forecast to decline gradually.”

The May 22–24 weekend brought minimal precipitation across the watershed, and flood control operations at Parks Creek that were originally expected to begin on May 23 did not need to be activated. The forecast for the coming week has minimal precipitation forecasted, which will allow water to continue draining through the system and water levels and flows are expected to continue declining.

The changes to water levels on Lake Nipissing depend on the amount of water flowing in from rivers, precipitation, and the amount of water flowing out through the control dams to the downstream French River. https://www.canada.ca/en/public-services-procurement/services/infrastructure-buildings/bridges-docks-dams/frenchriver-dam.html

NBMCA staff will continue to monitor conditions as part of the Authority's Flood Forecasting and Warning Program and will issue updates as needed.

This message is in effect until Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM EDT.

Please note: NBMCA is responsible for local flood forecast and warning program within its jurisdiction, covering communities from North Bay and Callander to Mattawa. Where a Conservation Authority has not been established, the local MNR District Office is responsible for local Flood Forecast and Warning programs, including along the Ottawa River, see

NBMCA cannot assist with active flood response and does not control water levels or operate dams, our watershed is largely natural with very few control structures. The Parks Creek Backflood Control Structure, which prevents Lake Nipissing from flooding upstream into Parks Creek, is the one exception. Where a Conservation Authority has not been established, the local MNR District Office is responsible for Flood Forecast and Warning programs, including along the Ottawa River.
