A Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook has been issued for the NBMCA jurisdiction, according to the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA).
“The low-density snowpack across the watershed will experience melting with warm temperatures today and again early next week,” stated Angela Mills, NBMCA Flood Duty Officer. “While widespread flooding is not expected, flooding may occur in flood-prone and low-lying areas.”
Unstable, thin ice has started forming along many rivers and shorelines, creating slippery banks and combined with cold open water poses a serious hazard. The public is advised to keep children and pets away from watercourses and shorelines. Area residents, particularly in low-lying areas, should monitor conditions and take precautions during high water flows. For flood emergencies, contact your municipality or, if in an unincorporated township, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry – North Bay District.
As part of the NBMCA Flood Forecasting and Warning Program, staff will continue to monitor weather and watershed conditions and update this message if needed based on the changing weather/streamflow conditions. Staff remain in contact with municipalities and other partners as required.
The general public is advised of these messages through the www.nbmca.ca website with the flood status icon and a link to information about current conditions.
