The FLOOD WARNING for the Lake Nipissing shoreline, La Vase River downstream of Lakeshore Dr., and Parks Creek has ended.
"Conditions across the watershed continue to improve following the spring freshet, with water levels and streamflows continuing to recede," said Githan Kattera, NBMCA Duty Officer. "Lake Nipissing is below the non-damage level and is continuing its seasonal decline. Tributaries including the La Vase River and Parks Creek have returned to typical seasonal conditions, and no flood concerns are present across the watershed at this time."
A rainfall event of approximately 10 to 15 mm is forecast for Friday, June 5. While minor rises in water levels and streamflows are possible, no significant increases are expected, and flooding is not anticipated under current forecast conditions. The Ottawa River at Mattawa has returned to seasonally normal conditions.
Water levels on Lake Nipissing are influenced by inflows from tributaries, precipitation, and outflows through the control dams to the downstream French River.https://www.canada.ca/en/public-services-procurement/services/infrastructure-buildings/bridges-docks-dams/frenchriver-dam.html
NBMCA staff will continue to monitor conditions as part of the Authority's Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.

NBMCA cannot assist with active flood response and does not control water levels or operate dams, our watershed is largely natural with very few control structures. The Parks Creek Backflood Control Structure, which prevents Lake Nipissing from flooding upstream into Parks Creek, is the one exception. Where a Conservation Authority has not been established, the local MNR District Office is responsible for Flood Forecast and Warning programs, including along the Ottawa River.
