Snow Survey Readings - March 24, 2020

(North Bay, Ontario, March 24, 2020)  Snow survey readings confirm that the snow is gradually melting. Snow depth has slightly decreased and water equivalence has slightly increased since the snow pack measurements taken on March 13 by the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority as part of its flood forecasting program.

The average snow depth for the three sites is 35.3 cm, a 5.2 cm decrease from last week. The average water equivalence for the three sites is 121.3 mm, a 21.7 mm increase from last week.

While exploring the outdoors, respect social distance and keep your dog on leash

(North Bay, Ontario, March 20, 2020)   Being outdoors has always been a magic elixir for mental health and wellbeing. During COVID-19, it’s still a great place to be active if you follow the guidance of the Health Unit regarding social distancing.  The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority is also reminding people to keep your dogs on leash and poop and scoop while you’re on conservation area trails.

Water Safety Statement Issued for Watershed

(North Bay March 19, 2020)   The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority is issuing its second water safety statement this spring. Increased runoff to area lakes and watercourses are expected due to a forecast of rain and warm temperatures which will further melting of the snowpack.

Caution on Parks Creek as Ice Removal Begins

(North Bay, March 17, 2020)   The annual ice removal off Parks Creek near Lakeshore Drive is set to begin Monday, March 23 and the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority is urging the public and snowmobilers to stay off the creek and away from the mouth of the creek on Lake Nipissing.

New Laurier Woods Boardwalk Celebrates Life of Young Man and his Love of the Outdoors

(North Bay, Ontario, March 17, 2020)   A new 180 ft boardwalk will soon connect the 1 km loop of the purple trail at Laurier Woods Conservation Area, thanks to the friends and family of 28-year old Michael Gauthier who wanted to honour his memory, his passion for the outdoors, and his love of Laurier Woods.

Snow Survey Readings - March 13, 2020

(North Bay, Ontario, March 13, 2020)  With milder temperatures and some rain, snow depth has been reduced by an average of 16cm and water equivalence has increased by an average of 7mm since the survey two weeks ago reports the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) who measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.

NBMCA issues Water Safety Statement

With rain and warmer temperatures in the forecast, the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) is issuing a Water Safety Statement to caution area residents of the growing risks near and around area watercourses due to the rain and melting snow.
