FLOOD WATCH - La Vase River and Mattawa River watershed and its tributaries

A FLOOD WATCH remains in effect for the Mattawa River and its tributaries, including the North River, Kaibuskong River, Amable du Fond River, Sharpes Creek, Pautois Creek, and Boom Creek, as well as Chippewa Creek and La Vase River in City of North bay and Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety has been issued elsewhere in the North Bay-Mattawa watershed, according to the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA).

2025 MATTAWA RIVER CANOE RACE A SUCCESS!

June 16, 2025

Fifty-four teams from across the province and a few from out of country participated in North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority’s Mattawa River Canoe Race presented by Susan Weiskopf, Senior Financial Planner - IG. Paddlers launched from Olmsted Beach, North Bay and made their way through the 64 km trek, five mandatory portages and low water levels to Mattawa Island, competing for the top spot.

Dean Brown from Hamilton and Mark Clout from Port Colborne in the Pro C2 Men’s class took the top spot in a time of 6:42:31.

Paddlers set to challenge the 64 km Mattawa River Race

Ninety-seven paddlers in 55 canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards will be participating in the 64 km Mattawa River Race from Olmsted Beach, North Bay to the Mattawa Island Conservation area. An additional 15 participants will join the last 13km of the race leaving from Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park. The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority’s Mattawa River Canoe Race is presented by Susan Weiskopf, Senior Financial Planner at IG.

Floodplain Mapping is Now Complete

North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA), in collaboration with the Province of Ontario, the City of North Bay, and the Municipality of Callander, has completed a comprehensive update to floodplain mapping for several key watercourses in the region.

The completed mapping includes Chippewa Creek, Parks Creek, and Jessup’s Creek within the City of North Bay, and Lansdowne Creek in the Municipality of Callander.
